Herbology

This is the Herbology classroom, which is really a greenhouse with various plants, pots, and others. There is a closet/cabinet in the corner for brooms, watering cans, earmuffs, and things like that. The teacher is Professor Krumiage.

  1. Krumiage waited for his students to arrive while he read a magazine.

  2. Bryn walked in with Shiina from their Transfiguration Class. Gwen did not come in, as she was in Charms. Damien did, however walk in with the other two. They stood in their positions around the long, rectangular table in the middle of the greenhouse.

  3. Devin walked into the greenhouse and stood next to Damien.

  4. Krumiage smiled at his class. "Today we'll be doing a brief review, then we'll get on to the lesson. Alright? Good. Now, first question: What is the difference between a grown mandrake and a child mandrake?"

    ReplyDelete
  5. Shiina raised her hand. "The child's scream will knock out a person for several hours, but the sound of the adult's scream will kill a person."

    Devin snorted arrogantly.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Bryn added, "Mandrakes also grow like a human does- they are first born as a child, then they become a teenager, then they reach adultery."

Krumiage smiled wider. "Very good, you two. Second question: What are the two most popular potions that can be made from a Shrivelfig?"

    ReplyDelete
  7. Devin arrogantly raised his hand. "The shrinking solution and the Elixir to Induce Euphoria," he said.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Krumiage nodded. "Good, Linke. Third question: What dangerous liquid does a Bubotuber produce and what effects does it cause?"

Damien's hand shot up. "It produces a pus. It burns skin, like acid. It acts as a solution against severe acne. This suggests that the bubotuber pus is a topical treatment, but that the actual salve consists of the pus either diluted in a solution or mixed with other ingredients."

Krumiage stared. "Uh, very good! A very detailed description. Fourth and last question: What does a Devil's Snare do what something touches it, and what is the solution against it?"

    ReplyDelete
  9. Shiina raised her hand again. "It suffocates whatever touches it when touched, and the solution against it is to conjure a light or fire."

    ReplyDelete
  10. Bryn added again, "And when one tries to struggle with the Snare, it only wraps its tendrils around you harder."
Krumiage smiled at his class. "Very good, all of you. Now, our lesson for today is about Flitterbloom. It has long, swaying tentacles. It bears a superficial resemblance to the deadly plant Devil's Snare, but it is harmless, so much so that wizards and witches keep it as a pot plant or grow it in their gardens." Krumiage glanced at his class as he pointed to a pot of Flitterbloom before him. "The exercise you will be doing today is telling the difference between Flitterbloom and Devil's Snare. In front of all of you should be four pots- two of Flitterbloom and two of Devil's Snare." He pointed at the four pots in front of every student. "Each pot is labeled with a number. Your job is to tell the difference, and write it down in your notebooks. Okay? Ready? Begin!"

  11. Shiina studied the plants intensely.

Devin stared at the plants, bored.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Damien nudged his friend. "Don't look like that, you have to pay attention!"

Bryn studied the plants with a concentrated look on her face. Then, she wrote something down in her notebook.

After a while, Krumiage spoke up. "Have you decided yet?"

    ReplyDelete
  13. Shiina continued to stare intensely at the plants, while Devin just stared at them. Neither of them spoke.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Krumiage sighed. "I'll give you five more minutes, then you must give me an answer."

    Five minutes passed.
    "Have you all decided yet?"

    ReplyDelete
  15. Devin pointed to the plant on his right. "Devil's Snare," he said. He pointed to the plant on his left. "Flitterbloom," he announced. Shiina did the opposite.

    ReplyDelete
  16. (there's four plants)

Bryn read from her notebook: "Plant A, Flitterbloom. Plant B, Devil's Snare. Plant C, also Devil's Snare. Plant D, Flitterbloom."

Damien smiled. "Plant A, Devil's Snare. Plant B, Devil's Snare. Plant C, Flitterbloom. Plant D, Flitterbloom."

    ReplyDelete
  17. Devin looked over. He then realized the other two plants. Red with embarrassment, he quickly corrected himself. Shiina followed suit, but more calmly.

    (lol fail)

    ReplyDelete
  18. (haha)

Krumiage grinned. "Don't worry, you two, I'll give you five extra minutes. I won't say the answers."

    ReplyDelete
  19. Shiina studied the plants more, while Devin stared at them stupidly.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Krumiage looked up after a while. "Right! Are you all ready?"

    ReplyDelete
  21. Devin stared at his notes. "Erm....Plant A, Devil's Snare, Plant B, Flitterbloom, Plant C, Flitterbloom and Plant D Devil's Snare?"

Shiina stood up silently. "Plant A, Flitterbloom. Plant B, Devil's Snare. Plant C, Flitterbloom. Plant D, Devil's Snare," she said and quickly sat down.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Krumiage laughed. "I'll tell you the answers. Plant A, Devil's Snare. Plant B, Flitterbloom. Plant C, Devil's Snare. Plant D, Flitterbloom." He looked around at the class. "None of you got it all right," he smiled. "But close. Now for the explanations: Why did you choose what you chose?"

    ReplyDelete
  23. Shiina was silent in self hate. Devin was silent, because he had nothing to be arrogant about. Shiina stared more closely at the plants. "Cauldron bum," she thought sullenly. "If I had seen those patterns on the leaves, my answers would've been correct." Devin just continued to stare at the plants.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bryn stared at the leaves, narrowing her eyes. Damien slowly raised his hand. "I originally thought that the scent of the roots would tell," he admitted. Bryn snorted in disdain. "But now that I look at it more carefully, the Devil's Snare have jagged little patterns in its tiny leaves, but Flitterbloom have vertical lines through its leaves."

Krumiage smiled. "Brilliant, Kumataka! The leaves of these plants, though tiny, they have very, very faint patterns. One can tell the difference if you study that difference."

    ReplyDelete
  25. Devin snorted, but observed the leaves as well.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Krumiage noticed Devin, but decided to ignore him. "There is 45 minutes of class left, and there is no time to do my extra activity, so we will have some free time until the end of class. You can work on your homework, which is a 1000 word essay on the difference between Flitterbloom and Devil's Snare, plus a report on what you did today. It has to be about 800 words."

    ReplyDelete
  27. Shiina started to write frantically.

    Devin wrote, slightly bored.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Bryn began planning out her essay, and Damien had already started on it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. After a while, Krumiage stood up and faced the class. "Class is over now," he told them. "You may pack up your things and leave for your free time before dinner. For now, I have to go." With a swish of dark purple robes, he was gone.

Bryn swiftly put all her things in her bag, then she walked over to Shiina to leave with her to the library.

Damien packed up his things as well, but not as hurriedly. He waited for Devin so they could go to the courtyard and hang out.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Shiina put her things away and left with Bryn.

Devin packed up this things, and headed over to the courtyard.

    ReplyDelete
  31. On the way to the library, Bryn suddenly stopped. "Oh, rabble-rousers!" She exclaimed. "I need to get the books we borrowed! I'll get them, you can come with me if you want!" With that, she whisked off to the Wyvernlor Common Room.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Shiina and Bryn walked into the greenhouse and looked around. "...."

    ReplyDelete
  33. Krumiage was leaning over a pot of Ratscab Ferns (LOL) and muttering something under his breath. Bryn shouted at him angrily: "Krumiage!"

    ReplyDelete
  34. Shiina stepped backwards and disappeared into the shadows, appearing just behind the deputy head master just as his gray eyes turned to look at the brown-haired girl.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Bryn narrowed her eyes. "I know what you wanted to do to Shiina." Krumiage hid his surprise well. "What do you mean? Did something happen?"
"Yes, something happened," she hissed furiously. "You tried to poison Shiina using Damien and Gwen died because of it! I don't care if you want your revenge on Lyreade just because the previous headmaster did something to your ancestors. Get over it, stupid, it's the past!" Bryn growled. Krumiage raised his wand, glaring at the girl. "You insolent child! Obli--"
"Expelliarmus!" Bryn shrieked, and the herbologist's wand flew out of his hands to land in hers. "You aren't erasing any more memories today, Krumiage!" She snapped. The house head couldn't help but feel a twinge of satisfaction at the traitor's look of shock. He never thought she'd figure it out... but with Gwen's words and her bad feelings about Krumiage she knew she was right. Everthing added up - Yamamoto injured, Farwill glaring at Krumiage, Krumiage disappearing once in a while, everthing feeling fuzzy after she saw Yamamoto get hurt... it all lead to Krumiage. He was the traitor.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Shiina narrowed her eyes and procured another sword with her wand, silently lunging at the taller man, sword pinpointed straight through his heart.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Krumiage dissolved into thin air, appearing just behind Bryn. "Ah, that girl," he said conversationally to Bryn. She glared at him and stabbed her wand at him (LOL!) and he flew backwards, slamming into the wall.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Shiina glared and stepped up to the from of Krumiage. "..."

    ReplyDelete
  39. Krumiage smiled crookedly up at Shiina. "You know I could kill you if I wanted," he told her. "But I promised your mother I would ask her about it before I did. She doesn't know about the poison, you know. Fallera and Daniel suggested I keep it secret. Assassins' laws. You would understand. They don't kill kin." Krumiage sighed, and melted into the wall, appearing again sitting on his desk on the other side of the room. "A good rule, you know. Too bad you're not going to get your way anyway." Krumiage's hazel eyes were still friendly like they always were, but not so exaggerated it was obvious. Just a relaxed, warm, trusting teacher who was open with his students.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Shiina narrowed her eyes at the herbology teacher, lowering her sword as she thought of her mother, her red eyes narrowing as memories flashed through them. "That woman wouldn't care," she said slowly. "I've already done too much to 'ruin' her life. It wouldn't make a difference in her life if I died."

    ReplyDelete
  41. Krumiage shrugged. "Still. She's the reason you're still alive. Fallera and Daniel--"
Bryn hissed at the Herbology teacher, cutting him off. "Shut up about my parents, okay?"
"You even care?" Krumiage was looking at her with his eyebrow raised, looking mildly amused.
Bryn narrowed her eyes at him, not saying anything. She knew her parents were bad, yeah, but she thought it was only because of her and Lyreade. Not Shiina. Bryn thought that Fallera and Daniel at least had the dignity of letting Kasumi know that they were planning to kill their daughter. Bryn at least hoped that they were proud and cunning criminals, not cowards.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Shiina narrowed her eyes and lowered her head, thinking about what Krumiage had said. "....stop talking about them. They're not here, only you are. Right now, the only thing we're concerned about is you."

(Sry for the italic on not, but i just rly wanted to try it out P:)

    ReplyDelete
  43. (How do you use the italics?)

Krumiage looked at Shiina. "I know. But shouldn't you be worrying about your situation with Damien and that Ada girl?" He smirked at her. Bryn glanced at both of them, a little confused. Damien and Ada? What?

    ReplyDelete
  44. (put at the beginning and at the end ^^)

Shiina turned a pale pink and scrunched up her eyes. (Haha.) "Shut up," she said, a little louder than necessary. "Shut up."

    ReplyDelete
  45. (ARG it didn't print right. look here: http://mike.brisgeek.com/2006/08/30/simple-html-for-formatting-blogger-comments/)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Krumiage smirked, knowing that he had gotten to her. "Oh, jealous now, are we?" He grinned. "It's not your fault you like Damien. Sometimes you can't control your own feelings." Bryn's mouth literally dropped open. Shiina liked Damien?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Shiina calmed her face down and stared at Krumiage. "Enough talk," she said. "Now you die."

    ReplyDelete
  48. Krumiage grinned. "Yeah right." Bryn growled and pointed her wand at him. "Mortekibilium!" She shrieked, and it streaked through the air towards him. He disappeared into thin air, appearing behind her, a knife at her neck, holding her in a headlock. "You don't move!" He called to Shiina, a smile still on his face. "Or she dies."

    ReplyDelete
  49. Shiina turned and glared at Krumiage, and then turned her eyes to the knife. Maybe if I glare at it enough it'll dissolve, she thought. She shook her head and looked up at the taunting gray eyes. "If she dies then you will die as well," she said threateningly.

    (eep.)

    ReplyDelete
  50. "Then I shall sacrifice myself for the pact," Krumiage responded solemnly. "It is what I will be honorable enough to do." He pressed the silver knife harder into Bryn's throat, blood beading on the blade. She hissed in anger and pain, trying to struggle.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Shiina lowered her gaze and narrowed her eyes, clenching her fist. At first, she seemed to fall to the ground, but then she changed direction, shadow-stepping towards the taller figure, placing a small knife on his hand as she went past. Hopefully, he would be hurt enough to let her friend go.

    ReplyDelete
  52. (You can't Apparate in Lyreade grounds. Only Krumiage can do that because he's a Traveller. :D)

Krumiage winced but kept his position, clenching his fist that held the knife until Bryn yelped in pain and swore, her face twisting into a cringe.

    ReplyDelete
  53. (ok. she threw it then P:)

Shiina glared even harder, throwing three more knives, but this time at his shin, thigh and forehead. "Let her go already!" she screamed. (very un-shiinaly :D)

    ReplyDelete
  54. (haha)
(LOL ... and it accidentally hit Bryn. She died.)

Krumiage stared her down. "You surrender to me, and I let both of you go. I have you both at my mercy- and your parents' mercy."
"Shut the hell up!" Bryn shrieked, and Krumiage almost had to block his ears. "Don't you dare hurt her!"

    ReplyDelete
  55. (Shiina died and cried. hehe.)

Shiina just stared at Krumiage, eyes unmoving. "....."

    (Eh, eh.)

    ReplyDelete
  56. (haha)

Krumiage stared at her, his eyes bleak and cold. "Surrender to me. Give me your knives." He pressed the knife into Bryn's throat more, and her eyes narrowed in pain but she didn't make a sound, her lips pressed tightly together.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Shiina narrowed her eyes. She'd never been in this kind of situation before. She reluctantly dropped one of her knives, hoping he wouldn't know about her other concealed ones. Which of course he did.:PD

    ReplyDelete
  58. Krumiage smirked at her. "All your knives. And any other sort of weapons on your person or belonging to you."
"Don't unarm yourself!" Bryn called, ignoring her bleeding neck as she protested, blood trickling down her skin and into her robes.

    ReplyDelete
  59. "Tch," Shiina said, and dropped everything, an array of knives, shirikens and other weapons clanging to the cold floor of the herbology room.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Krumiage nodded. "Good." He smiled, and slashed his knife across Bryn's neck who gasped and fell to the ground in pain. Before Shiina could react he twisted and disappeared an a waft of smoky mist. Bryn lay limply on the floor, groaning. "Why does everyone want to kill me?" She grumbled as she struggled to sit up, only falling back down weakly.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Shiina narrowed her eyes and ripped off part of the sleeve of her robe and wrapped around Bryn's neck. "Not good with healing spells," she muttered.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Bryn pushed Shiina of her. "I'll do it." She muttered something while waving her wand, and the wound on her neck disappeared, though she was still pale from blood loss. Bryn tried to get up, only to fall down once more. "Godammit," she hissed, massaging her sprained ankle.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Shiina narrowed her eyes and looked down at the ground, thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Bryn sighed and forced herself to rise, then staggered to the door. "Let's get out of here," she made out. "We need to see where Damien and Gwen is. I need to clear Damien's memories about the prophecy. He can know Gwen died, though. He just needs to be protected from the truth."

    ReplyDelete
  65. Shiina nodded and the two girls headed off to find the other boy.
