Charms

The classroom is also your typical, everyday classroom- 4 by 5 desks, two blackboards, and a teacher's desk. There are various objects to practice the charms on, and these are stored in a closet by the teacher's desk. There are also pillows, for when the students are doing more dangerous charms.

78 comments:

  1. Prof. Farwill sat patiently on her desk, wearing her typical blue dress shirt and gray skirt. Her white slippers dangled off her feet as she perched on the oak and cedar surface, wand in hand, cleaning her classroom as she waited for her 2nd Year class to come.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Pollux tripped into the classroom and quickly rushed to his desk. He didn't want to be late.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Prof. Farwill smiled at the student."Hello, Lupen," she waved at the second year. "How's the beginning of your second year here? Don't worry, class starts in three minutes," she added, noticing his frantic expression.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Leon walked into the classroom, sitting next to Pollux. He took out his wand.

    ReplyDelete
  5. "Oh, I'm feeling wonderful. What are we learning about today?" Pollux answered, and took his wand out as well.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Prof. Farwill noticed that these were her only students, so she started class. "Right! Today we'll be learning "Duro", the charm that makes objects hard, and "Wingardium Leviosa" the levitating spell." The teacher got off her desk and waved her wand. Two large textbooks levitated themselves and plopped down at their desks. "Like that."

    ReplyDelete
  7. Leon stared up in wondered at Professor Farwill. He pointed his wand at a nearby quill, muttered a spell, and the quill immediately began to float. After about ten seconds, he took his concentration off and let the feather float back onto the desk. He pointed his wand and said, "Duro," and the feather immediately became as hard as a diamond.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Pollux waved his wand, attempting to imitate Prof. Farwill's actions, and muttered "Wingardium Leviosa". Instantly, his notebook levitated.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Professor Farwill smiled. "Very good, Leon. Now Pollux, you try."

    ReplyDelete
  10. "Duro, please, Lupen," Professor Farwill said, her voice getting harsher.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Pollux stared at his notebook then muttered, "Duro!", but nothing seemed to happen. Then he pushed it off his desk and the notebook fell to the floor, and made a clank like it was metqal.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Prof. Farwill nodded. "As you do this, class, write notes, because you'll have to right an two essays for each charm- one on its origin and one on its effects." She waved her wand, and both the two targets returned to their original version.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Pollux bent down and picked up his book from the floor. Then he whipped out his quill and quickly scribbled notes.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Leon began to frantically take notes in his notebook, using a different quill and still observing his other quill.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Farwill walked around the tables, observing the notes.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Leon clenched his quill a little tighter, but continued to dutifully take notes.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Farwill stared into the distance, muttering something about beef casseroles.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Leon raised his hand. "Professor, what do we do now? We've taken enough notes and read out textbooks."

    ReplyDelete
  19. She looked down at the boy. "There's still thirty minutes of class, so I'll give you all some free time. Use it wisely. Work on your homework. I'll give you some targets to practice spells on, if you need it." Farwill waved her wand and moved a pile of cushions to the middle of the room.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Leon got out a fresh piece of parchment and started to plan out his essay. He looked over at Pollux, who was staring into space.

    ReplyDelete
  21. "And, if you want to get extra grades, I have some bonus work for you," Farwill added, pointing to a pile of parchment on the edge of her desk.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Leon stared at the pile of parchment. "Will it be hard?" he wondered aloud.

    ReplyDelete
  23. "A bit," Farwill admitted. "But I believe you can do it."

    ReplyDelete
  24. "OK!" Leon exclaimed, eyes sparkling with determination.

    ReplyDelete
  25. "Take one if you wish," Farwill told him, waving her wand. A piece of parchment floated to Leon's desk.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Leon scanned the page. He then picked up his quill and began to write.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Farwill sat at her desk and began to do some of her own paperwork.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 30 minutes later, Farwill stood up. "It's time to go, class! Remember- two essays for each spell, one for the origin and one for the effect. Have it ready by next class, or you'll get detention for three weekends." She waved happily at her two students. "Have a nice day, boys!"

    ReplyDelete
  29. "Good-bye, professor," the boys chorused as they packed up their things and left the room.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Farwill waved as they trooped out of the room. She watched them leave, then her smile fell from her face. The lines on her face showed, and there were dark circles under her eyes. Visions racked her all through the night, and she couldn't get any proper sleep. "Why can't I control that damned Inner Eye?!" She hissed angrily to herself. "I really need a drink," she muttered, and prepared to go to Goat's Corner for a nice firewhisky or hazelnut coffee.

    ReplyDelete
  31. (you guys continue the classes without me LOL so im staring into space....)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Shiina walked into the class, late. She looked weary and was wearing a mask that covered her nose and mouth. She looked up at Professor Farwill. "Sorry I'm late, professor."

    ReplyDelete
  33. Bryn ran into the classroom, panting. "I'm sorry, professor! I forgot to get something!"

Prof. Farwill looked at both of them. Something was up. She'd have to talk to them both after class. "It's quite alright, girls," she said, smiling lightly.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Shiina looked away, but took a usual seat in the back of the room.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Bryn looked at her usual seat, then at Shiina. She walked over and sat in the seat next to her. "Hi," she muttered, then turned her gaze back to the front of the class.
"So, as I was saying, we'll be learning 'Geminio' and 'Homenum Revelio'." Farwill pointed to the blackboard. "Does anybody know what they do?"
Gwen's hand shot up. "Geminio creates a duplicate, a facsimile, of any object upon which it is cast, but the duplicate will not be a raw or pure object. 'Homenum Revelio reveals any humans near the caster, but there are charms against this."
"Very good, Gwen," Farwill smiled. "We'll be practicing 'Geminio' next. Look at the pieces of chalk on your table, wave your wand like this, and say: 'Geminio' in a clear and calm voice." Farwill demonstrated with the piece of chalk she was holding, and another piece of chalk came spurting out of the original one. "Take notes on this, including the process and the duplicates."

    ReplyDelete
  36. Shiina looked at the pieces of chalk, and scribbled down some notes.

Devin, sitting in the fron, did the same, but looked very bored.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Bryn performed the spell, and wrote down her notes. Just then, a 16 year old guy with messy black hair walked in. He handed Farwill a note, who nodded and smiled at him. She turned to the class. "Look here, class! This is the new student, Damien Kumataka. Please be welcoming to him!"
Damien bowed to the class. "Hello," he said quietly, then took Bryn's regular seat. Bryn narrowed her eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Shiina stared at the new person for a second, and quickly turned away.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Damien caught her gaze, and and flashed her a quick grin before taking out his books. Farwill looked at all of them, then said. "Right, now practice Homenum Revelio." She felt a vision taking over her vision, and panicked. It never happened in class. Farwill muttered a quick excuse, then rushed out the room, sliding down the wall of the corridor. There was a flash of bright light, and she saw the... library? Bryn and Shiina were walking up to the third floor, the restricted section, and gave the person standing there a pass. Her vision zoomed in, and Farwill saw her own signature on the teacher's signature line. It faded out, and Farwill felt her energy diminish. She sat, dazed, staring blankly at nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Professor Yamamoto walked by, holding a bunch of thick textbooks. He looked at the floor for a second, seeing Farwill. He immediately tripped, all his books tumbling to the ground. He silently stood up, a small gash on his cheek, looking slightly embarrassed.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Farwill was jerked out of her trance by the sound. She quickly stood up, brushing herself off, hiding her embarrassment. "Oh, er, hello, Kazuki."

    ReplyDelete
  42. Kazuki stared at Farwill, unable to say anything. After a while, he croaked. "Hi."

    ReplyDelete
  43. "Oh, are you hurt?" Farwill worried, stepping forward. She leaned forward and gently laid her hand on his shoulder, tapping her wand on his cheek. The wound closed up and she stepped back again. She suddenly noticed her dress shirt was not fully buttoned. Feeling self-conscious, Farwill quickly buttoned it up and said hastily to her fellow teacher, "If you'll excuse me, I need to get back to my class." She turned and hurried back into her classroom.
As she went in, Farwill saw Bryn, Gwen, Devin, Shiina, and Damien dutifully practicing their charms. She looked at her pocketwatch and saw that there was 25 minutes left. This was when she usually let her students have their free time to work. "Very good, class! You can now have your free time. Use it wisely. The homework for tonight is two reports of at least 2000 words on the charms. Include the origin, the inventor, its effect, its negatives, positives, and anything else you think is necessary."

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yamamoto stared after her, slowly turning red. Then he picked up his books and went back to his classroom.

    ~In the Classroom~
Shiina was bored. Why did they have to study these charms? She had stuff to do. She looked over at Bryn and sighed.

Meanwhile, Devin was starting his essay, scribbling away like a maniac.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Bryn was staring at their teacher with the same expression as Shiina. She already knew these charms; there was no point studying them. Ten, fifteen minutes ticked by, and Bryn was drafting her essay.
Damien had finished planning his essay, and was scribbling on his parchment frantically, like he had to finish before class ended. His parchment suddenly tore, and he swore under his breath.
Farwill watched the clock reach 5 minutes before dinner. "I'll let you all go five minutes early, alright? You can leave, except for Reedwing and Natsumoto."

    ReplyDelete
  46. Bryn looked at Shiina and walked forward to Farwill with Shiina. "Yes, professor?"
"Why were you late for class?"
Bryn narrowed her eyes. "I already told you. I had to go get my Charms book." She wasn't lying either; Bryn had left her textbook behind and had needed to get it before going to class.

    ReplyDelete
  47. "I had fallen asleep in my dorm professor. That is it," Shiina said.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Farwill narrowed her eyes and seemed to want to say something more when she sighed. "Alright then." She turned and scrummaged for something in her robes, and pulled out two library restricted section passes. "Here. I have the feeling you two might need this." She had already signed it, with their names on it. Bryn narrowed her eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Shiina took it and immediately headed out of the classroom.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Bryn looked at Farwill once more, suspicion in her eyes, before heading out with Shiina.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Farwill sat down at her desk, arranging her papers and preparing for her Year 3 class to arrive.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Morgotha flaps onto Henry's shoulder.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Henry arranges his books neatly waiting for class to begin.

    ReplyDelete
  54. (Sorry, but can you please have the quotation marks and not have a sentence for each comment? It confuses us and takes up space)

Farwill nodded to Henry. "You are not late, Henry. However, Ariadne doesn't seem to be coming today and I have put Aria aside to another class for now, so it will be a private lesson today." She pointed to the chalkboard. "Alohomora. The spell that unlocks doors that has no charm on it to protect it."

    ReplyDelete
  55. Henry waves his wand at the door and says "Alohomora" and the door clicks open. [Sorry the comp messed up last night for a while so I couldn't answer.]

    ReplyDelete
  56. (oh, ok)

Farwill nodded. "Good. Try again with this one." She pointed at a larger, heavier, metal lock.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Henry waves his wand at the metal lock and says "Alohomora" and the lock makes a louder click and opens.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Farwill points to a simple-looking bronze lock. "Open that."

(please don't open it, it's charmed. he'd probably be voldemort or something to open it lol)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Devin and Damien sat in the charms class, listening to Farwill drone on about new kinds of charms that they were to learn.
Where's Bryn? Devin thought, staring into the air as he daydreamed about Bryn. She's never late to class; I hope nothing happened...

    ReplyDelete
  60. Just then, Bryn and Shiina skidded to a stop outside the classroom. "Sorry about being late, Professor," Bryn said breathlessly as the two sat down at their usual seats. Aria raised an eyebrow at them, taking in the cut on Shiina's cheekbone and Bryn's ripped robes.

Farwill narrowed her eyes at them. "That's 10 points from both Wyvernlor and Dracoslyther," she told them, and the Wyvernlors and Dracoslythers in the room groaned.

"Thanks a lot, Reedwing," a skinny Wyvern snapped. Bryn glowered at him as she opened her textbook to the right page.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Shiina looked away uncomfortably, sitting down in her seat and flipping open her textbook to the correct page. Her eyes shifted sideways as she quietly scanned the class.

Devin looked up, startled. Where were you? He tried mouthing to Bryn, hoping that somehow she would see his action.

    ReplyDelete
  62. [I changed the comment formatting since it was annoying me and Cel obviously isn't coming on here anytime soon XD]

Aria leaned over from her seat directly behind Shiina. "Damien said to ask where you were," she whispered, looking discreetly up at Farwill to see if she was listening. Damien glanced over at Shiina, trying to gauge her reaction.

Bryn gave Devin a look that said Tell you later. [?]

    ReplyDelete
  63. [Okay :D I probably would have done that sooner or later XD]

Shiina also gave Farwill a quick glance. "Later," she muttered back. "He's in Eagletalon; he should care about classes more than anything else." Drawing a diagram of a wand, she added on a spell coming out of it and labeled its components.

Devin sighed, but nodded and continued to stare down at his notebook page, which was blank. He quickly picked up his quill and pretended to scribble down notes.

    ReplyDelete
  64. [Derp yeah :D]
    [Farwill? You mean Aria?]

"Right, so we're going over wand components today," Farwill informed the two latecomers. "I promised Professor Westwood I'd give my charms class a preview on wandmaking, so you could apply for it if you were interested in the second semester." She tapped her wand on the diagram on the board.

"As you all remember from when you got your wands, the wand chooses the wizard. That is the situation in almost all documented cases. This is because of the unique character of each wand, and how different people have different affinities towards each specific characteristic of wands.
"Therefore, a wizard that uses another wizard's wand may find that the magic they produce is impeded or sub-par to what they can do with their own wands. Though, according to the famous Ollivander family of wandmakers, each witch or wizard can channel powers through anything, but optimum results can only be achieved with one's own wand." Farwill paused her lecture to look over the half-alert, half-bored students. "Are you all taking notes?"

    ReplyDelete
  65. [She was making sure that Farwill wasn't watching~]

Shiina nodded quietly, and continued to diagram her wand. On the bottom of the page, she made a small line and made a section titled 'Notes', summarizing the contents of Farwill's lecture so far.

Devin was still bored. However, he knew that if he didn't pass his seventh year, he wouldn't be able to graduate with Damien, Bryn and Shiina. Sighing, he wrote down a few notes and drew a crude diagram of a wand.

    ReplyDelete
  66. [WHERE DID MY COMMENT GO WTF?]

Farwill peered over some of the notes. "Take good ones, because NEWTs are coming up in 7 months." She took a deep breath.

"Usually, when the wand chooses the right wizard, it emits a sort of warmth or performs some sort of magic. Before I go more in depth with wand properties, I'll go over the different factors that make up the characteristics of a wand.
"There are the: core, wood, length, and flexibility. These make up a wand. Some makers choose to use different cores that they prefer, or some just choose the cores that are easier and safer to obtain. For example, Garrick Ollivander only uses three cores: unicorn tail hair, dragon heartstring, and phoenix feather. Many different woods with even more different personalities are used for wands, though the ones you have may also depend on where you are from- for example, not many wizards can get a eucalyptus wand, as they are very expensive to import from Australia to England."

    [What else happens?]

    ReplyDelete
  67. [We only got up to Shiina and Bryn being late :| Uh....]

Shiina continued to scribble down notes at a rapid pace, frantically dipping her quill in the ink pot when she finished a sentence.

Devin lazily wrote, taking notes at a leisurely pace.

    [.w.]

    ReplyDelete
  68. [Let's just go with the stress thing]

Bryn tuned out Farwill's lecture; she didn't really care for wandmaking, and anyway, she was applying for alchemy and ancient studies for her second semester. Instead, she gave the diagram of a wand in her notebook a mustache and crossed eyes, smirking a little to herself.

Damien, who was a typical Eagletalon nerd (and he knew it), strongly disapproved of Bryn and Devin's careless attitude towards schoolwork. They were perfect for each other, he thought wryly. They could slack off and return to repeat their 7th year together. He, however, was going to get top marks for his NEWTs even if it killed him.

Aria was frustrated, and only half concentrating on the wandlore. She still had no idea what she wanted for her second semester, mainly because there were too many goddamn courses to choose from. As a very advanced student, Aria had three grades of different programmes to choose from, and being the naturally inquisitive and eager-to-learn character she was, she had about fifteen different classes she wanted to take, even if Aria could only choose two.

[Class will end next comment I write]

    ReplyDelete
  69. Shiina continued to write, still undecided about what she would take the next semester. Nothing sparked her interest much; she'd probably ask Damien or Bryn what they were going to take and see if any of the subjects suited her interest.

Devin sighed. He liked the fact that he could stare at Bryn for as long as he wanted in from the back of the room, but that still didn't change the fact that class was a total drag for him. The boy had much better things to do, such as....well, anything but being in class.

[And then they go somewhere to tell Dev and Dam where they were?]

    ReplyDelete
  70. As everyone (including herself) knew, Farwill liked to go in-depth with what she was teaching. Sometimes she went too in-depth. Which was why she was only just going into the theories of the effects of wand flexibilities on user personalities when the alarm clock on her desk rang, reminding her that were was only 5 minutes before the end of the period. It was a good thing it was there to keep her on time, Farwill reflected, not for the first time, as she stopped talking and turned around to face the half-asleep (save for a few more studious people) students. "Alright, then. Homework will be light: just two feet of parchment on extensive wand properties, and a thirty-page reading on muggle-repelling charms, which we will cover in the next class. Take notes!" She smirked inwardly at the collective groans and complaints from the class, overhearing Bryn Reedwing mutter "bitch" under her breath. "Class dismissed." She watched them file out of the classroom, none of them eager to get to their next class.

[Do we want Yama/Farwill scene now??? :DDD
Also we can have the four comment in the corridors outside of the classroom for the convo]

    ReplyDelete
  71. Shiina quickly packed up her bag and filed out of the room, wanting to get out of Farwill's sight as soon as possible. Devin, having brought few items to class, swept them up into his arms and then proceeded to leave the classroom.

Yamamoto was standing outside of the room, wondering whether or not he should go in. He lingered outside until all of the students left, took a deep breath, and then strode into the classroom, making sure that the door closed (and locked) behind him. "Hello, Selena. How was class?"

[He sounds so weird DDDDD: Do you mind if he calls her Selena in private~?
    So comment in the corridor?]

    ReplyDelete
  72. [Yeah. You comment first.]

Bryn followed more slowly and was just about to round the corner when she felt someone grab her wrist. She spun around, ready to attack when all she realised who it was. "Damien. What?"
"You and Shiina promised to tell us."
"We never promised, and we'll tell you after she has Divination and Ancient Runes."
Damien's voice was stern and hard, something Bryn never usually heard. "Now."
She gave him a measured stare, thinking, and then nodded curtly. "Fine." She turned to catch up with Shiina.

[I think teachers/professors generally call each other by their first names outside of class (ie. "Did you get the printed copies from Rachel?")]

Selena was tidying up her desk for the advanced Charms class she was teaching after dinner, the last class of the day. She briefly pondered upon taking a walk to Colema and visiting Yvalgar Boulevard (she rather enjoyed Icicles' Cider Flavoured Ice Cream, which would be perfect for the late autumn weather). Before Selena could decide, however, someone came in the classroom and locked the door behind him. She didn't have to look up to recognise the voice. "Hello, Selena. How was class?"
Selena glanced up and smiled, seeing the auburn-haired, amber-eyed man, awkward as always.

"Class? Fun for me, dreadfully boring for them." She leaned back in her seat. "How are you, Kazuki? I was thinking about a short trip to Icicles; I have a free period right now."

    ReplyDelete
  73. [Okay.]

Yamamoto gave his colleague an awkward smile. "I'm fine, thank you," he said, walking closer to the female. "Free periods sure are nice… I have to teach the fourth years next, and after that I have third years." The professor almost facepalmed as he thought of Pollux and Leon's antics, as well as Herpina and Derpina's tendencies to stare into space at any given moment during a class.
